The solution for all skin problems

Discover Chemical peels

When we think of peels, we often think of aggressive procedures, bandages and raw skin. But there are gentle chemical peels that can give excellent results on a multitude of problems without suffering or having to hide at home for weeks! At what price? How does it work? Does it hurt? We explain everything.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peeling involves exfoliating a more or less thick layer of skin using an acidic substance. By exfoliating and "peeling" this layer of skin, indications such as imperfections, pigmentation spots, wrinkles and other signs of aging can be treated;

How does it work?

The liquid substance is applied to the skin with a brush. The acids contained in the product then act to exfoliate the skin. No needles or equipment are required;

There are three types of chemical peel

There are three types of peel, which penetrate the skin at different depths. Depending on the desired result, you'll need to go deeper or shallower into the epidermis, or even into the dermis. But only doctors and dermatologists can work on the dermis. Aestheticians can only work on the epidermis, the most superficial part of the skin.

  • Superficial peeling

It is used to exfoliate the most superficial layers of the skin. This type of peeling can be performed by beauticians. There are no side-effects to worry about, apart from slight redness and irritation, which will disappear in the hours following treatment, or even the next day. The beautician herself must provide post-care recommendations, which must be followed. Sun exposure is prohibited for up to two weeks after the treatment;

  • Medium peel

A medium peel with TCA acts under the horny layer of the epidermis, on the superficial dermis, to more effectively treat skin indications such as pigmentation spots, imperfections or wrinkles. A week's social eviction is required.

  • Deep peeling

It is much more rarely used and is akin to a real medical operation. The after-effects of the operation are severe, and social exclusion is unavoidable. This type of peel enables deep wrinkles and sunken scars to be reached. A local or general anaesthetic is required, and the skin must be prepared between two weeks and a month in advance with appropriate creams. This preparation is extremely important and delicate. It all requires follow-up by a professional cosmetology specialist 1. Following a deep chemical peel, there is significant skin swelling and bleeding. The skin must be bandaged and regularly covered with healing ointments. The skin may remain pink for several months after treatment, and the patient should avoid exposure to the sun. This is a medical procedure and cannot be performed by a beautician;

Why have a peel? What are the indications?

A chemical peel can act on the following indications:

  • It can be a solution for treating imperfections
  • It can help make scars disappear or fade;
  • It can tighten dilated pores and eliminate blackheads and blackheads.

Depending on its depth of penetration and the acids used in the solution, the results will be more or less spectacular.

Results with a superficial chemical peel

The results and effects of a peel can last from 6 months to 1 year, with a quality peel. Depending on the formulas used

  • Immediately brighter, glowing skin.
  • Smoother skin, dilated pores are tightened.
  • Wrinkles and fine lines are erased.
  • Reduced pigmentation spots.
  • Reduced imperfections.

Dermatologist or beautician?

Aestheticians don't have access to the same formulas as dermatologists, who are medical professionals. Peels performed by dermatologists are generally more concentrated in acids and therefore stronger.

But more and more professional solutions are enabling beauticians to offer their customers effective peels, without side effects or social eviction.

With adjuvanted peels 2.0 from celestetic, the beautician can tailor the treatment to her customer and respond to all skin issues. The formulas are ready-to-use. A wide range is available to treat just about any skin problem, and can even be used for "zoning" or "mapping" techniques. This enables the beautician to offer a tailor-made treatment, and apply different peels to different areas of the face.

Tenfold peel effects with microneedling or electroporation

In aesthetic centers, the effect of a peel can be optimized through the use of other techniques such as microneedling or electroporation. These techniques can be applied once the peel is complete, and combined with solutions containing high doses of active ingredients. Microneedling and electroporation enable deep penetration of active ingredients, up to 95% into the epidermis. At celestetic, the Multi-techniques treatment enables professionals to combine different highly effective techniques for the face, while adapting to each customer's needs and budget.

How does a peel work?

First, the skin is cleansed and make-up removed. The esthetician or dermatologist listens to the needs and expectations of the person receiving the peel. She then carries out a diagnosis of the skin by observing it closely: she determines the skin type, the problems to be targeted, and chooses the formulas she will use accordingly. The peel is then applied directly to the skin. Different solutions can be applied to different areas to treat multiple problems in a single session. A longer or shorter exposure time is required. The esthetician then neutralizes the solution and applies a serum and cream to soothe the skin. A tingling sensation and reddening of the skin are normal. The use of LEDs completes the treatment to optimize the results obtained while soothing the skin.

How much does a peel cost?

A superficial peel at an esthetician's can cost between €30 and €70. Prices may vary according to center and geographical area. It's advisable to have several sessions and opt for a package, as well as to combine the treatment with cosmeceutical products, highly dosed with quality active ingredients. The effects of the peel will last longer.
